The final day of the competition arrived with clear skies and warm temperatures. Each team would run two Sprints today. The fastest three boats from the first two rounds would run in the finals in the afternoon.

The University of New Orleans won the Sprint and claimed the World Championship trophy. Additionally, they were the overall champions for 2010 with a total of 976.44 points - just over a point shy of Cedarville's record of 977.76 points.

Boats line up for the Endurance Event

The Endurance Event began under mostly cloudy skies, but by the end of the morning heat the sun was out and the boats were cruising. All the boats started together in the morning and afternoon heats. The University of New Orleans won both heats.

Qualifying and the Solar Slalom event were completed in the morning. The first round of Sprint heats were run in the afternoon.

Cedarville won the award for Best Technical Report

Technical report awards were given out at the first Morning Meeting. Boats were launched and inspected on the water. After passing all inspections, teams began making qualifying runs.

Late in the day a rain shower caused a slight delay.

The day began with a 50% chance of rain, but ended with no rain and a lot of sunshine. All 12 teams arrived and checked in, although a few of the boats were a bit late in arriving. Inspections are well underway, and will be completed by noon on Thursday.

The large screen is back and the day ended with dinner and a movie.

Jeff Morehouse, Solar Splash director

This week begins the preparations for the fifth and final year for Solar Splash to be held in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Many thanks to the University of Arkansas for serving as the host school, to the city of Fayetteville for welcoming us and providing us with a beautiful lake and facilities, and to all the people who have made this a great five years of solar boat competitions.
